Dental Nurse
The Level 3 Dental Nurse role is central to a smooth-running practice, involving both direct patient care and essential clinical support. You would assist dentists with a wide range of treatments, from routine check-ups to specialist procedures, ensuring patients receive high-quality care and support throughout their visit.

A significant part of being a Dental Nurse involves preparing the clinical environment, which includes setting up and cleaning surgeries, sterilising instruments, and preparing materials for treatments. Additionally, you are responsible for vital administrative duties such as updating patient records and maintaining essential equipment, all while diligently following practice policies and procedures to guarantee a safe and efficient workplace.
Qualifications Required
Apprentices must be working in a practice for a minimum of 20 hours per week.
To enrol on this course, English and Maths requirements differ depending on the learner’s age:
For learners aged 16–18: It is mandatory to either already hold, or be able to work towards and achieve, the required English and Maths qualifications as part of the apprenticeship. These must be completed prior to gateway.
For learners aged 19 and over: It is recommended that applicants hold GCSE English and Maths at Grade C/4 or above (or an equivalent qualification). If evidence of prior achievement is not available at enrolment, learners may choose to complete these subjects separately through Skills4, with full funding and support provided.
While English and Maths are optional for adult learners to enrol onto this apprenticeship, completing them is strongly advised — particularly for those intending to progress to a higher-level qualification in the future.

Skills Required
Successful Dental Nurses possess a keen interest in the profession paired with excellent people skills. You must demonstrate tact and discretion when handling confidential patient information and utilise clear, effective communication and strong interpersonal skills to build rapport and provide quality care. Crucially, you need collaborative teamwork abilities to work seamlessly with colleagues. On the operational side, the role requires exceptional organisational and time management skills to effectively handle priorities, the ability to multitask, and a calm demeanour to remain composed and professional in fast-paced or high-stress environments.
